Watch the video for ‘313’, by Residente, starring Penélope Cruz

by daily weby

‘313’ by Residente is a “tribute to time and the things we don’t want to end.” The long-awaited video directed by the same artist is here.

Just a few days away from the release of his next album, Letters Don’t Matter AnymoreResidente has given us a powerful song with Silvia Pérez Cruz and a visually striking video starring Penélope Cruz.

The short begins with a narration by Cruz that reflects on time and the importance of taking advantage of every moment in life. In the middle of an autumn garden, several dancers float in the air, almost frozen in time. Cross emerges inside a window, representing life. The dancers personify time and Residente interprets the living being whose voice is taken away by time to give it to life and the song begins in Cruz’s mouth.

‘313’ and the dance between life, living beings and time were born in an “inexplicable, supernatural and magical” way. The song was inspired by a friend of Residente named Valentina, “a talented violinist who, although she is no longer physically here, is still here.”

Last week, Residente unveiled the cover of Las Letras Ya No Importan, art that sees him reach for the hand of an android-style machine in direct reference to Michelangelo’s painting, The Creation of Adam. In addition, he revealed the list of 23 songs that will make up the album, among which are ‘Problema Cabrón’, ‘This is Not America’ and ‘ Quiero Ser Baladista ‘.

The most recent previews of the album will not be the only collaborations we can expect, as it will feature artists such as Rauw Alejandro, WOS, Al2 El Aldeano, Arcángel, Ricky Martin, Jessie Reyez, Christian Nodal and more.

Recently, Residente debuted as a lead actor in the independent film In the summers, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and won the jury prize at the festival. In addition, it was announced that she would collaborate with Alexander Dinelaris, recognized for his role as a screenwriter on films such as Birdman and The Revenant, to create Puerto Rico. The film will be a historical drama based on the life of the Puerto Rican revolutionary, José Maldonado Román.

Residente’s second solo album, Letters Don’t Matter Anymorewill premiere this February 22 at 7 pm EST.
