We exclusively reveal two rare cards from Magic: The Gathering’s Fallout expansion

by daily weby

A few days ago we told you about some of the first cards that Wizards of the Coast revealed as part of its crossover expansion with Fallout, Bethesda’s well-known post-apocalyptic saga. Today, we can exclusively reveal to you two of the cards that will be part of this collection.

The Fallout x Magic: the Gathering collaboration will go on sale next March 8, and will consist of four pre-built decks with different themes related to the universe of the Fallout saga. Specifically, our two cards will be part of the deck Mutant Menacewhich centers on The Wise Mothman, one of the cryptids present in the game Fallout 76.

The first card is a reprint of a mythical card among mythical cards within the format: it is about Hardened scales (Hardened Scales, in English), an enchantment for the price of one green mana that suits deck commander Wise Mothman perfectly, as he will get +1/+1 counters every time a player grinds one or more non-land card. Thus, Hardened Scales will allow us to double the number of counters we put on The Wise Mothman each time, making him grow twice as fast.

The new version of Hardened scales shows us, as it could not be otherwise, one of the mutant – and scaly – creatures that populate the different maps of the Fallout universe. Specifically, it seems to be the Deathclaw, one of the most fearsome and also most mythical creatures in the series, which we have seen in installments such as Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas.

The second card is a completely new rare. But be careful, in addition to interesting mechanics, it also has history. Is about Vault 78: forced evolution, a saga with a converted mana cost of five and green and blue colors that fits within the mutant tribal theme. In its first step, we will gain control of a target non-mutant creature from any of our targets’ table. In the second, we will put a +1/+1 counter on it and turn it into a mutant. In the third and final, we will draw a number of cards equal to the greatest strength among the creatures it controls. What this gives us is a precious opportunity to stick with the strongest card among all those our opponents control and not only avoid having to deal with it but also obtain a probably great card draw at their expense. It could only be better if we were allowed to keep her when the saga is resolved; but, unfortunately, we will have to return it to its rightful owner after a couple of turns.

Vault 87: Forced Evolution is a reference to a specific location of Fallout 3. As a curiosity, it is the place in the game with the highest radiation on the entire map, and with good reason: it is where the feared Super Mutants are born. If we have the equipment and medicines necessary to get there in the video game we can enjoy a quite remarkable piece of history about how these monsters came to be in the Fallout universe.

The Fallout x Magic: the Gathering collaboration will be released next March 8.
