Take the popular roguelite Vampire Survivors and garnish it with the quirky sci-fi setting of a successful indie shooter and you get Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor. The autoshooter, which is essentially a spin-off to Deep Rock Galactic, started early access on Steam on February 14, 2024and it turns out to be quite successful.
Large scope, but still problems with balancing
Within one day, Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor was able to collect almost 1,500 reviews, the average of which, as of now (February 15, 2024 at 2:30 p.m.), is 84 percent positive. The title also achieved at least a respectable success in terms of player numbers, reaching a peak of 17,313 simultaneous users.
The success of the autoshooter is no coincidence: After all, Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor combines the simple but motivating game principles of two titles, which in turn have already gathered a large and loyal fan base on Steam. In the best autoshooter style, we shoot our way through hordes of attacking enemies, constantly improving our weapons and at the same time mining resources while, in typical dwarf fashion, we clear new paths through the levels.
In the early access version, there are four different classes of dwarves that we can control through different biomes, including lava deserts and seemingly impenetrable thorny jungles. The enormous scope of Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor for an early access title delights fans, but the balancing of weapons and items still causes criticism. If you can live with these shortcomings, you can currently get the game at a reduced price of 8.99 euros on Steam.
