Production in the construction sector increased by 0.2% in the eurozone in 2023

Brussels, February 20 (EFECOM).- Average production in the construction sector grew by 0.2% in the eurozone and 0.1% in the European Union as a whole in 2023 compared to 2022, according to data published this Tuesday by the community statistics office, Eurostat.

In December 2023, production in the sector increased by 0.8% in the euro area and 1.3% in the Twenty-seven compared to the previous month, while if compared to December 2022, production increased by 1 .9% and 2.4%, respectively.

In the case of Spain, the monthly increase in construction in December was below the European average, at 0.7%, the same level as last November, while the annual increase was much higher than the average , reaching 5.6%.

By sector, building construction increased by 1.1% in the eurozone and 1.4% in the EU in December compared to November; while, on the contrary, civil works decreased by 0.6% and 1.1%, respectively.

The countries that recorded the highest monthly growth in production were Romania (10.3%), Poland (8.5%) and Hungary (5%), while Slovakia (-10%), Germany (-3.4 %) and Austria (-1.9%) saw the sharpest declines.

In annual terms, in the eurozone both the construction of buildings increased, by 1.3%, and that of civil engineering works, by 4.7%, in line with the trend also registered in the community bloc as a whole, where recorded an increase of 1.1% and 4.1%, respectively.

The main annual increases in the sector occurred in Romania (30.7%), Poland (18.9%) and Belgium (10.7%) and the largest decreases were recorded in Slovakia (10.4%), Austria ( 8.7%) and Sweden (6.1%). EFECOM
