‘Helldrivers 2’ is having so much success that its creators have made a radical decision: limit access

by daily weby

The success of ‘Helldivers 2’ has far exceeded the expectations of Sony, which has released it exclusively on Playstation 5 and PC, as we talked about when we determined the possibilities of more multiplatform games like this in the Japanese company’s catalog. The income for Sony thanks to the title of Arrowhead Game Studios could be, according to some estimates, close to 16 million dollars

The extraordinary acceptance of the game is not only reflected in the excellent reviews it has been earning in recent days, but also in its number of simultaneous players, which continues to grow. Last week we were talking about peaks on Steam of more than 250,000 players, but this weekend it has broken its record again, already with almost 410,000 players at the time of writing these lines.

All this has its consequences, of course: the official game account has had to acknowledge through a brief statement on Twitter that they have been overwhelmed by the number of players: “Despite our efforts to increase the capacity of the server to accommodate all of you who want to dive for Freedom, we are experiencing capacity issues. Once again we are working without delay to improve the issue and hope to have a solution as soon as possible.”

The first decision that Arrowhead has made is to limit the number of players concurrent to 450,000 to be able to manage success. The studio communicated this through their Discord, where they specified that the problems had started with failures in mission payments, that some players were expelled to their ships or that sessions were closed. For now, they advise that “if you have problems related to progression, restart the game so that everything synchronizes again” and they guarantee to be working against the clock to solve these errors.

The game continues to grow and Arrowhead needs to solve its problems as soon as possible. To get an idea of its reach, we only have to look at the list of games with a record number of concurrent games on Steam: ‘Helldivers 2’, despite its short time on the market, is already at number 24 on the list, leaving behind very popular titles such as ‘GTA V’, ‘Monster Hunter: World’, ‘Starfield’, ‘Counter Strike’, ‘Destiny 2’, ‘Team Fortress 2’ or ‘Skyrim’.
