Weather: end of warning for waves, floods in the South-West: 7-day forecast

by daily weby

Weather alert due to waves and floods is gradually easing. Météo France thus lifted the orange vigilance (level 3 out of 4) in the middle of the day this Sunday for waves and submersions in the last departments which remained concerned, Ille-et-Vilaine and La Manche.

But yellow vigilance (level 2 out of 4) remains in place in nine departments. In the north of the country these are Calvados, Seine-Maritime, Somme and Pas-de-Calais; in the west and south-west of France, these are Vendée, Charente-Maritime, Gironde, Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques.

In New Aquitaine, orange vigilance is maintained in four departments due to flooding. These are Charente-Maritime, Gironde, Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques.

Vigicrues, the organization responsible for monitoring the level of rivers, explains that high tides are the cause of this maintenance. “Southwest estuaries for open sea tomorrow morning” are affected. The exposed areas are those of Seudre, Gironde and Adour-Nive. “The rising tidal coefficients and surges due to the Karlotta depression will cause significant overflows. »

Floods notably took place this Sunday morning in Bayonne (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), Quai de Lesseps for example. If the overall decline is “started”, it will however take “several days before returning to normal”.
