They were hot. Two occupants of a car which had plunged into the Oslofjord (Norway), right in the center of the capital, were rescued this Thursday, February 1 by a… floating sauna, Norwegian police announced. “When the car ended up in the water, two people were apparently inside,” Oslo police wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “They were fished out by a floating sauna,” she added.

The Oslofjord has several floating saunas available for rental, some mobile and motorized. On a video filmed by witnesses, we see two occupants of the Tesla car taking refuge on the roof, before the vehicle sank just before the arrival of the floating sauna. “I put full throttle towards the people who were getting out of the car,” the “skipper” of the floating sauna, Nicholay Nordahl, told the Verdens Gang (VG) newspaper.

The two occupants unharmed

“We arrived just as the car sank. With the help of two hosts, we fished them out. They were able to warm up in the sauna,” he added. According to a police officer quoted by the media, the two occupants were unhurt. Police said they do not know at this stage why the Tesla ended up in the water.

Still according to VG, its driver declared that he thought the car was in parking mode on a quay on the edge of the fjord, when he pressed the accelerator pedal. “She then jumped into the water,” he told the newspaper. “It was a horrible feeling.” The vehicle was also recovered. But by a recovery truck.
