The PSOE supports Armengol and discredits the PP’s resignation request: “It has no basis”

VALENCIA (EP). The spokeswoman of the PSOE, Esther Penahas sent a message of support to the president of the Congress of Deputies, Francina Armengol, after the Popular Party has formally requested her resignation for her actions in the alleged corruption plot in the purchase of masks when she was president of the Balearic Islands. Thus, she has indicated that “she has no basis” because her name does not appear in the summary or in the investigation.

“Mrs. Armengol does not appear in the summary or in any of the documents being worked on in this case,” Peña indicated, considering that the “good name” of the former Balearic president is being called into question.

In a press conference this Monday at the party’s national headquarters on Ferraz Street, Peña pointed out that there is no constitutional article or even the regulations of the Lower House that say that Armengol has to resign. He also considers that the case “will not have any legal background to support it.”

Therefore, he has asked to “stop dirtying the names of people” who in his opinion “have no meaning” and has continued to insist that the PP spokesperson, Miguel Telladomust explain why his name appears in the case summary.

The PP considers Armengol a “possible necessary collaborator” in the “scam” that the Koldo García Izaguirre plot carried out in the Balearic Islands, as indicated this Monday by Tellado himself. They consider that he received and paid for some masks “at an unusual speed” knowing that they were “useless” and did not complain until three years later, when the change of autonomous government occurred.

Therefore, they demand that the President of the Government and Secretary General of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, act with “coherence” and ask Armengol for political responsibilities, just as he did with former Minister José Luis Ábalos, who was suspended from militancy and given an ultimatum. to deliver his deputy certificate.

Accumulation of files

Along the same lines, Peña has defended that “there are no fake masks” by specifying that those received by the Balearic administration “were not of the type requested, but they were suitable for use.” For that reason, only the difference in price between one type of mask and the other was claimed, she has alleged.

Faced with criticism that the claim was made late, he reiterated that “it was made within the legal time, with the difficulty of accumulating files related to the pandemic.”

The PSOE also maintains that it was this claim made by the socialist Government that “concerns the alleged corruptors” and for that reason they are looking for intermediaries to contact the current administration chaired by the ‘popular’ Marga Prohens “so that they forget about the complaints.”

At that moment, according to what they indicate, is when the name of Tellado, Jacobo Pombo and “that mysterious Alberto” appears in the summary, suggesting that it could be Núñez Feijóo. Finally, they point out that the claim was forgotten by the popular government of the Balearic Islands.

“Therefore, the actions of the socialist administration being clear, it remains to know what role Miguel Tellado, Jacobo Pombo and Alberto played in that mediation so that the claim was forgotten,” he indicated.

Does it affect PSOE and PP equally?

After asking the PP leaders for explanations, Peña has been questioned about how this plot affects the PSOE and the PP, whether it affects them equally or whether one is more affected than the other.

Peña has indicated that in the summary and in all the documents related to the investigation only two deputies appear, one is Tellado, from the PP and another is José Luis Ábalos, who is in the Mixed Group after being expelled from the Socialist Group. In any case, she has indicated that she is not capable of making statistics on the matter, despite being a sociologist by profession, as she has stated.

Finally, he has indicated that he wants political responsibilities to be assumed “with the greatest transparency” and has asked all those who appear identified in the investigation and have something to say, to appear on the investigation commission that the socialists promote in the Chamber. Low.
