The combustion of fossil fuels to be gradually eradicated by 2050

Drastic measures! The Big Island is committed alongside the international community in climate action. We agreed to limit global warming to its level before the industrial era. Thus, participants at the 28th edition of the Conference of the Parties on Climate, in Dubai, agreed on the fact that the planet’s fossil fuels are drying up. Another fact also, their excessive exploitation, since the start of the second industrial revolution, has raised the temperature of the planet by a notch.

An agreement to significantly reduce, if not to zero, the use of fossil fuel combustion was then signed by stakeholders, including Madagascar, during Cop 28. A large part of the CO2 emitted by humans comes from the combustion of energy fossils. Being one of the main victims of climate change on a global scale, the Big Island has decided to move forward with the implementation of this action plan with different countries with a view to accelerating and strengthening its resilience as well as their adaptation actions.

“Fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas are the main culprits of climate change. Used mainly in buildings, transport and industry, these fossil fuels emit CO2 during combustion. They represent approximately 80% of the energy consumed in the world,” explains the latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a group of scientists which closely examines the evolution of global warming and proposes actions to follow to limit the effects of climate change. We even warn of the imminence of the catastrophe without a decision being taken as quickly as possible. “Without an immediate and radical reduction in emissions in all sectors, it will be impossible to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees,” we warn. Currently, the Big Island is one of the countries that pollute the least in terms of CO2, which is why the country is pleading for access to climate financing.
