President Andry Rajoelina inaugurated the honey refining unit in Tolagnaro, which can produce 100 liters per hour.

A honey refining unit was officially handed over to a producers’ cooperative in Tolagnaro last Saturday. The export of production is in the sights.

With a processing capacity of 100 liters per hour, the honey refining unit installed in Tolagnaro promises remarkable performance.

This refining unit was officially handed over by Andry Rajoelina, President of the Republic, to the SOAVAGRI cooperative, whose members are the beneficiaries. The ceremony took place in the premises of the Chamber of Commerce of the Anosy region, in Tolagnaro, last Saturday. From the outset, the ambition to conquer the international market was affirmed, a challenge that the honey producers of the Tolagnaro district intend to meet, judging by their discussions with the Head of State. This initiative marks an important step in the development of the local beekeeping industry and opens new prospects for honey producers in the region.

Honey producers in Tolagnaro have arguments to make. They produce different flavors of honey, giving consumers a wide choice. Niaouli honey, cactus honey, pink pepper honey, polyfloral honey, among others, are offered. “Refining through the industrial unit will make it possible to achieve the quality standard required by the international market,” explains the representative of the members of the SOAVAGRI cooperative.

Quality

Refining is carried out by distillation at low pressure so as not to alter the aroma and taste. Refined honey has a humidity level of less than 11% and is also sterilized. In addition, this industrial unit has a bottling line with a rate of thirty jars of honey per minute.

“Madagascar can absolutely export quality honey,” underlines the President of the Republic. The honey refining unit handed over on Saturday is part of the “One district, one

factory” (ODOF), or “Taninketsa indostrialy”, implemented by the Ministry of Industrialization and Trade. Sixty industrial units are installed throughout the country as part of this project.

The ODOF project is a variation at the local level of actions aimed at achieving the industrialization of the country, one of the three pillars of the General State Policy (PGE). This industrialization aims to produce and transform locally everything the population needs, with the aim of stimulating the country’s economy. In addition, conquering the international market is also in the plans.
