“I finally have moments to myself”: in Seine-et-Marne, godparents for children in care

Like brothers, Thomas, 37, gives Théo a knowing look. Six months ago, he became her sponsor thanks to the branch of the France Parrainages association located in Melun (Seine-et-Marne). For Théo, 17 years old, placed in Child Welfare (ASE) since he was 1 year old, this meeting was a blessing. A way to escape from a dull daily life in his home in Quincy-Voisins in the north of Seine-et-Marne. “I spent my childhood feeling like I was being deprived of going out. As I have no connection with my parents, I never had permission the weekend. I rarely left the home. Now, thanks to my meeting with Thomas, all that has changed. I finally have moments just for myself,” smiles the young man, a high school student in professional carpentry.

For Thomas, a civil servant, this meeting was a great upheaval: “I would say that from the first glance, there was a feeling. I don’t have any children. I thought about adopting. And then, one day, I came across an ad from France Parrainages, I was seduced by the fact of giving love to a child who lacked it,” he explains.
