Haute-Savoie. Extinction Rebellion attacks the Saint-Gervais valley elevator site

by daily weby

On the night of Friday April 19 to Saturday April 20, activists from Extinction Rebellion Mont-Blanc installed banners on two construction sites in progress in Saint-Gervais, that of the wastewater elevator and that of the valley elevator. Two projects opposed by this local branch of the global civil disobedience movement fighting against “ecological collapse and global warming”.

Duplicate with the Mont-Blanc tramway

On their banners, activists denounce, among other things, “greenwashing elevators”. On the one having taken place at the future arrival station of the valley elevator, which should connect Fayet to the town center and to the gondola for Bettex by July, there is even a QR code referring to a page collective internet, where activists develop their arguments against its projects whose ecological virtues they question.

Extinction Rebellion considers in particular that these elevators duplicate the Mont-Blanc tramway, underused according to them, but also with the departmental road. Activists also denounce the artificialization of land linked to these projects and the deforestation of two sections of forests of interest for biodiversity. Finally, they recall that three appeals still have to be judged.
