Haría commemorates International Women’s Day with activities that demand equality – Haría City Council

The Haría City Council, through the Equality Area, headed by Councilor Nuria Esther Acuña, has organized an extensive program of activities to commemorate International Women’s Day which is celebrated this Friday, March 8.

Acuña explains that “the objective of this celebration is to continue giving visibility to women, their battles and their innumerable achievements, placing special emphasis on reflecting on the progress and challenges that we still have pending to achieve, together, a better world. equitable”.

The Councilor for Equality adds that “from the City Council we have designed a complete program of events to vindicate the role of women and continue working on equality policies.”

The events will begin this Thursday, at 6:30 p.m., with the colloquium talk called ‘Attention to Women’, by the Civil Guard at the La Tegala Sociocultural Center. Then, at 7 p.m.:00 hours, The round table ‘Women’s Words’ will be held, where several residents of the municipality of Haría will present their testimony that, without a doubt, will serve as an example and mirror where other women can look at themselves.

The event on Friday, March 8, will start at 11:45 a.m. at the La Tegala Sociocultural Center with the theatrical performance Caesar’s womenby Carmen Barreto and which will be aimed at IES Haría students.

Representatives of the Haría City Council will also participate in the demonstration and concentration in Arrecife organized by the Forum against Gender Violence and the March 8 Feminist Platform of Lanzarote. Likewise, the reading of various manifestos for the defense of the rights and equality of all women will also take place.

The façade of the City Hall will also light up purple during the night of 8M, as a symbol of equality.

Adherence to Fecam agreements

The Haría City Council also adheres to the agreements of the Canarian Federation of Municipalities (Fecam) with the aim of consolidating collaborative actions with all public institutions and social agents, supporting local development initiatives that allow promoting concrete solutions to inequality between men. and women.

With the permanent commitment to human rights, to women’s rights, to real equality of opportunities and building lines of action that lead us to a world free of violence, more entrepreneurial and supportive.

The final objective, as stated by Fecam in its institutional declaration, is to mobilize society to participate in actions that prevent the regression of women’s rights in order to achieve a free, inclusive world without violence, that it is not an obstacle to achieving equality, development, peace and respect for the human rights of women and girls.
