“CIA agent”, “little telegraph operator from Washington”, “American agent”… In recent weeks, these sweet words aimed at the head of the list of the Socialist Party – Public Place for Europeans, Raphaël Glucksmann, have flourished on social networks. A disinformation campaign orchestrated by China, revealed last week the MEP, who had been warned by the government body Viginum that pro-Beijing accounts were accusing him of being “the Trojan horse of the Americans, in particular of the CIA, in Europe.”
For someone who has long denounced the forced labor of the Uyghur minority in China, these maneuvers were “predictable”, he admitted on X. “The fact of having communicated about it had the effect that it was arrested immediately, confides his campaign director Éric Andrieu, former socialist MEP. But we remain on alert because it is not unlikely to be confronted with a second salvo of attacks in the form of false information or cyberattacks.”
