Campaigning in Ajaccio for the European elections, the president of the far-right Reconquête! Eric Zemmour was targeted by egg throwing while walking through a market on Saturday May 4, and the prosecution opened an investigation for “violence in meetings with weapons”.

On the market, the former candidate for the presidential election was awaited by around fifteen people who called him a “torch” and shouted to him ” Leave here ! »according to a corresponding photographer from Agence France-Presse (AFP). “There were jets of water and throwing of eggs and a woman tried to push him”said a police source, specifying that “the incident was very brief”.

On a video of Corse-MatinMr. Zemmour reacted by seeming to strike a blow at this woman. “It comes behind his back, he doesn’t know who it is, if it’s an egg, a fist, a knife, he pulls away, it’s a pure reflex of self-defense. At no time did he want to hit this woman. The attacked is Eric Zemmour”his entourage told AFP.

Investigation for “violence in meetings with weapons”

“The investigations were entrusted to the DIPN [direction interdépartementale de la police nationale] who must determine who are the people who attacked Mr. Zemmour”, announced the Ajaccio prosecutor, Nicolas Septe. However, no complaint has yet been filed concerning the blow that Eric Zemmour allegedly dealt to the woman.

“This is the true face of the extreme left, of the small violent groups, who really want us dead”reacted the leader of the far-right party on his account.

Mr. Zemmour, convicted several times for provoking racial hatred, continued his stroll, always followed by the same fifteen people kept at a distance by a CRS cordon. Sometimes warmly welcomed on certain stalls, he was encouraged to look elsewhere on others.

The Reconquest list! for the European elections, carried by Marion Maréchal, is credited with 5% to 6% voting intentions.
