During a unihockey “superfinal”, Friborg became the suburb of Zug

by daily weby

Something unusual is happening in Friborg this Sunday morning. On the station platform, an abnormally high number of travelers got off the train from Bern. They join dozens of others waiting at the Gare de la Gare for a bus that is not crowded. They came with friends or family. Everyone speaks Swiss-German and crowds happily towards the ice rink. For the first time, the unihockey “superfinal” is relocated to French-speaking Switzerland. But the event – which crowns in a single afternoon the best men’s and women’s teams in the country in this sport only practiced at a high level east of the Sarine – was more about traveling than stimulating local curiosity.

It’s a shame, because there are things to see. First the peaceful coexistence of supporters of three teams: the green of SV Wiler-Ersigen (BE), the blue and yellow of Kloten-Dietikon Jets and the white and blue of Zug United (who qualified their two women’s and men’s teams ). No virilist procession, no cordon of police officers in riot gear, no closed sector or separation in the ice rink. The Zougois came in large numbers, but they are not the favorites: Kloten-Dietlikon for the women and Wiler-Ersigen for the men have monopolized the titles since the introduction of the superfinal in 2015.
