With 66 votes in favor, the Legislative Assembly approved the reform to the Electoral Code to reduce the number of deputies from 84 to 60, in order to reduce State expenses, promote voting equality, implement the election by quotient and promote the decision-making in favor of the population.

“With 66 votes in favor, we approve the proposal to reform the Electoral Code to reduce the number of deputies to 60. In this way, we ensure that the vote in El Salvador is free, direct and equal,” reported the official account of Bancada Cyan. .

During his Address to the Nation on the night of Thursday, June 1, President Nayib Bukele announced a proposal to reduce the number of deputies in the Legislative Assembly. “No more deputies for waste,” he assured.

  • Santa Ana: 5 deputies

  • La Paz: 3 deputies

Likewise, Deputy Alexia Rivas stressed that: “Choosing their representatives is a decision that belongs to Salvadorans. Now, they judge and choose democratically who will be their rulers”.
