Ankatso gymnasium opens in early April

by daily weby
The brand new gymnasium still requires some touch-ups before its opening in April.

After its renovation in preparation for the 2023 Indian Ocean Islands Games, the Ankatso gymnasium was closed to the general public. It was only put into service during the volleyball matches counting for the CCOI in September. Voices are starting to be raised among users. Its opening is eagerly awaited by students because the Ankatso gymnasium is above all an educational tool. Its availability is expected as a breath of fresh air for students at Ankatso.

Great advances have been made in the field of sports infrastructure in Madagascar and the Ankatso gymnasium is one of them. Unfortunately, students have been left wanting more due to its current closure. However, the finalization of the Ankatso gymnasium, which has been abandoned for several years, offers a new modern facility which has regained its former splendor, or even more.

The latest news is that it is about to open its doors and promises to have a significant impact on the development of student sport, if not Antananarivo sport in general. Students from each major at Ankatso use this beautiful infrastructure following a well-defined schedule.

Pierre Raymond Raherinjanahary, general project coordinator at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, was categorical about the opening of this beautiful infrastructure. “From April, the Ankatso gymnasium will be open and we are finalizing some final details. »

Technical reception

A professor of physical education and sports from the ENS, who wishes to remain anonymous, explains: “The Ankatso gymnasium is above all a classroom in the same way as the DEGS cathedral or medicine, Conaco or the amphitheater in Ankatso. A large part of the classes are done inside the gymnasium in the morning. Since the 2023 JIOI, the gymnasium has been closed and classes have been disrupted. We therefore demand its opening as soon as possible.”

Another teacher in the middle of class in a room near the Ankatso swimming pool, in his anonymity, specifies: “You see these students who sit on the floor, is it normal to live like that? All because of the gym closing. The sports infrastructures at the University of Antananarivo, under the management of the Office of Sports and Culture, must be used by the people concerned. Thus, we appeal for its opening.”

Rosa Rakotozafy, Director General of Sports at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, gives her opinion: “I am surprised that the gymnasium is not yet open. Dialogues along these lines have already been initiated. »
