MADRID, 1 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz drops one place, to number three, in the ATP world ranking, in favor of the Italian Jannik Sinner, brand new champion for the first time of the Miami Masters 1,000, a tournament in which the Spaniard could not go beyond quarter finals.

The Murcian lost his match for a place in the semifinals of the event held in Florida against the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, surprise of the tournament and new member of the world ‘top 10’. But the most significant change was carried out by Sinner, whom Alcaraz already beat in the Indian Wells semifinals two weeks ago, but who now takes away the number two in the world.

The Italian, who threatened him from his third place, now has 8,710 points, just over 1,000 (1,015) behind the Serbian Novak Djokovic, who continues as world number one, although he did not defend points in the second Masters 1,000 of the season.

The one from El Palmar, who did not match the semifinals reached in Miami in 2023 – where he fell precisely against Sinner – now occupies the third place with 8,645, very close to the Italian. While the Russian Daniil Medvedev, who lost to Sinner in the semifinals, closes the ‘Top 4’ almost 1,500 points (7,165) behind Alcaraz.

The ‘Top 10’ of the world ranking does not have many new features except for Dimitrov’s rise of three places to ninth, after his final in Miami, while the Polish Hubert Hurkacz drops to tenth place. Of the rest of the ‘Armada’, Pedro Martínez rises to 77th place, after winning the Girona Challenger, and Roberto Bautista also improves within the ‘top 100’ (93), despite only playing two duels in Miami.

For her part, in the WTA classification, the Polish Iga Swiatek remains firmly at the top, with more than 2,000 points ahead of the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, with the American Coco Gauff closing the ‘top 3’. The big promotion goes to the North American Danielle Collins, recent winner in Miami, rising 31 places (22), just 78 points from the ‘top 20’. The best Spanish is Sara Sorribes in position 50.
