Keys to the Eurovision 2024 final

by daily weby

The Eurovision 2024 final will be held this Saturday, May 11 in Malmö (Sweden), after Loreen’s victory last year with her song Tattoo. Furthermore, this time the 50th anniversary of the triumph of the Swedish group ABBA at the festival is celebrated with Waterloo. These are the keys to this edition of the European contest:

Where and when to see. The final gala of the Eurovision 2024 festival will begin at 9:00 p.m. local time this Saturday and can be followed live through the festival’s YouTube channel or on La 1 on TVE and the RTVE Play digital platform.

Which countries participate. Eurovision 2024 has the participation of 37 countries. However, only 26 representatives will compete in the final, after some of them were disqualified in the two semifinals held this Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.

  • The countries classified in the semifinals will participate in the final, those that belong to the Big Five (Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom) and Sweden as the winning country of last year’s contest.

Voting system. In this edition, the division between the jury vote and the public vote is maintained through what is known as ‘televoting’.

  • The televoting. In the final gala of Eurovision 2024, some changes have been adopted, such as opening the voting period for viewers before the first song is performed and it will remain open all the time until approximately 25 to 40 minutes after the last participation.
  • The judge. Eurovision appoints a professional jury in each of the participating countries. Each of them is made up of five members with experience in the music sector and who have proven experience.

Furthermore, as a novelty, the voting percentages in the final have changed in Eurovision 2024. On this occasion, the value of the televote increases to 50.6% while that of the jury drops to 49.4%. This is because on this occasion non-participating countries will be able to cast their vote via the Internet, grouping themselves together as if they were one more country, according to RTVE.
