The senior Malagasy tennis players who are taking part in the Davis Cup in Kinshasa from June 21 to 24 have just won their first opening match against players from Lesotho yesterday. The proteges of Dina Razafimahatratra, captain of the Malagasy national team won by 3-0 in front of the flag carriers of Lesotho. Roméo Rakotomalala, the reigning champion of Madagascar opened hostilities by rubbing against Neo Makhakhe. The young Malagasy won in 3 rounds 3/6 6/2 6/3. Playing his first international match abroad, he succeeded well in his baptism of fire despite losing the first set due to stress. Throughout the match, he was able to listen to the coach’s instructions, applied them and little by little, he was able to gain confidence allowing him to win in the end. In match 2, Lucas Andriamasilalao who plays in France swept in 2 sets 6/0 6/3 Mpho Leshoele in 58 minutes flat. In the doubles match, the Malagasy duo formed by Fenosoa Rasendra and Nicolas Raharivony wins against Lerato Mathibela and Elliot Khojane in 2 sets 6/2 6/0. Dina Razafimahatratra said today’s goal of winning has been achieved. “This Davis Cup is a real opportunity for players like Romeo Rakotomalala, our reigning Madagascar champion. For his very first international match, he was able to manage his emotions as well as possible, especially after being down a set to nothing. A tight match which was not easy but which he won in the end”. And Dina Razafimahatratra to continue: “Lucas for his part confirmed his status in front of his opponent of the day. Nicolas and Fenosoa made a good combination in doubles. It’s a first victory that gives us confidence for the future and we will prepare as well as possible for the match we will have against Uganda”, he concludes. On this day, the Malagasy national team will rest before facing Uganda on Friday.
