Time magazine featured Free market in the select group of 100 most influential companies in the world. The repercussions were such that the New York stock market itself, Nasdaqdid not hesitate to congratulate the emblematic Argentine firm.
As expected, the founder of the multinational e-commerce company, Marcos Galperin, came out to speak about it. He did it through a message on his social networks to celebrate the landing of his company in the elite of the international corporate world.
“24 years of effort and perseverance from a team of many people throughout Latin America summarized in a single photo.”, expressed the Argentine.
The post was accompanied by an image of the Nasdaq building in Times Square. “Nasdaq congratulated Mercado Libre after being named one of the most influential companies by Time magazine”was -in the best New York style- the screen on the façade.

Mercado Libre chosen among the 100 most influential companies in the world: this was the selection of Time
Last week, Mercado Libre was selected as one of the 100 most influential companies in the world by American Time magazine. The Argentine company, founded in 1999 by Galperin, shares this recognition with others such as Open AI, creator of ChatGPT, TikTok, IBM and Disney.
The 100 are divided into different categories, such as “leaders”, “disruptive”, “innovative”, “titans” and “pioneers”. Mercado Libre fell to the former and Time magazine described: “The Argentine e-commerce giant is Winning the game against Amazon in Latin America. In 2022 he broke records, with more than $10 billion in revenue and $1 billion in operating profit, up 134% from the prior year. Its fintech offerings are its fastest growing segment, allowing users to send payments, apply for loans, withdraw cash, and more.”
Furthermore, the article continued: “For 40% of the merchants who receive loans, Mercado Libre is the first institution that offers them credit. Latin America has enormous differences with other regions, especially with regard to financial inclusion”, explained Galperin in dialogue with Time magazine.
To create TIME100 companies, the magazine’s editors seek nominations from all industries and survey their global network of contributors and correspondents, as well as outside experts. “We then rate each one based on key factors such as impact, innovation, ambition and success. The result is a diverse group of companies that help chart an essential path into the future.”the article explained.
