Alberto Fernández responded to the accusation of Gerardo Morales for the violence in Jujuy

President Alberto Fernández demanded that the Jujuy government headed by Gerardo Morales “the immediate cessation of repression” and accused the provincial president of “being the only one responsible” for having led the province to that situation “trying to impose a constitutional reform that does not respect the National Constitution.”

«You are solely responsible of having led our beloved province of Jujuy to this extreme situation trying to impose a constitutional reform that does not respect the National Constitution,” the President stated on his Twitter account, in response to a post by Morales minutes earlier in which he made responsible to Fernández and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner for “the extreme violence that is taking place in the province of Jujuy”.

In his publication, the President said that the reform of the Constitution of Jujuy – which was approved and sworn in today while the police repressed the protesters on the outskirts of the local Legislature – “it disregards international agreements, it does not listen to the original peoples and it denies the right to protest”.

“The national government respects federalism and local electoral results, but it must guarantee coexistence and respect for human rights. That’s why, We demand that the Government of Jujuy immediately cease the repressionFernandez asked.

Finally, the president demanded that the Government of Jujuy that “call on all the social actors from Jujuy to find ways of dialogue to overcome the controversy that it has created.”
