Sixty-three days before the opening of the XIth edition of the JIOI of 2023 that Madagascar will host from August 25 to September 4 in Antananarivo, the renovation of the infrastructures supposed to receive the competitions is at a standstill. Concerning the track of Alarobia, temple of athletics which will host the majority of competitions in this sporting discipline, since the last visit of the members of the CIJ, from May 18 to 21, no work has ever started. Dominique Raherison, president of the Malagasy Athletics Federation, explains: “We are still in contact with the Ministry of Youth and Sports. We had the promise from the ministry that the Alarobia track will be renovated. And if the necessary equipment is available, the work will be done in less than a month, working day and night. » Complete renovations are to be redone in all areas for the temple of athletics in Alarobia: the track itself, the launching areas, the rivers, the toilets, showers, WCs, electricity. “The question that currently arises is whether the Head of State, Andry Rajoelina, is aware of the challenge of this XIth edition of the 2023 JIOI in Madagascar. I think those around him are throwing the banana peel at him. Everyone is now skeptical especially the other islands. By what miracle will the Big Island manage to make up for the delays, the budget or the subsidy is only verbal”, confides Mamitiana Andriambola, parent of athletes.
